Mach1 Motorsport on ADAC Kart Masters podium

German kart manufacturer on top course

The race team of the German kart manufacturer Mach1 Kart went to the Erftlandring in Kerpen last weekend with six riders in their luggage.  The 1,107-meter-long track was the venue for the opening race of the ADAC Kart Masters. In heavily filled driver’s fields, the Mach1 fosterlings asserted themselves with flying colors. Julian Müller even secured third place in the shifter kart classification of Germany’s strongest kart series.

The Corona-related wait has finally come to an end this last weekend. The invitation to the season opener of the national ADAC Kart Masters was followed by a total of 176 riders to the traditional route to North Rhine-Westphalia. In exciting duels under changing conditions, the fight for the first championship points of the season began, in which Mach1 Motorsport and its drivers had a clear say.

Erik Müller started as a soloist with the X30 seniors and ranked after the heats on a solid 13th place. From there, the youngster started the first race and even worked his way up 8th place towards the middle of the race but lost in scrimmages and fell back to 24th place. A failure in the second round ended his catch-up chase prematurely because of a technical defect.

Niels Tröger was one of the top pilots in the OK. In the time training still twelfth, the Großfriesener native already turned up strongly in the preliminary rounds. In the intermediate ranking, Niels improved to fourth place before going even further ahead in the first round. In second place, the Mach1 Motorsport fosterling missed out on victory by a hair’s breadth. With sixth place in the second race, Niels finally rounded off his great performance.

Julian Müller held up the Mach1 Motorsport flags at the shifter karts. Placed fourth in the time training, the Cologne native already underlined his skills and from then on consistently stayed in the top ten. Unfortunately, a technical defect in the second heat threw him far back at the start that he slipped to ninth place in the intermediate classification. In the first final, the routinian passed his opponents round by round and ranked fourth. In the second run Julian finally improved again and was waved off in the end as a great third. Tim Tröger was even ahead of his team-mate being ranked in fifth place after the preliminary rounds. In the first race, the shift kart rookie lost positions and fell back to16th place, but then started a great catch-up chase up to ninth place in the second round.

For Paul Voegeding, the weekend started all the way to plan. After impressive preliminary rounds, the Mach1 kart driver was ranked fourth place for the first final, which he finished with an excellent third place. But then the shock: A disqualification due to too small burn space volume threw the fast racer back to the end of the field. The subsequent analysis of the situation revealed a significant deviation of the measurement methods, which is why even the technicians of the ADAC doubted the correctness of the measurement afterwards and Paul was allowed to start in the second final without any changes with a technically correct engine. For legal reasons, however, the DQ was not withdrawn, which was disappointing athletically for the engine tuner, team and driver and in no way comprehensible.

Nevertheless, Paul gave everything again and managed to move up to 18th place in the second race. Tobias Sjögren experienced a weekend of ups and downs. After finishing 18th in the first race, the Swede had to give up early in the second race due to failure.

“We did well this weekend. We have been on the road at a winning speed with both the OK and the shifter karts and have shown the potential of our material. The Mach1 Factory Supported Team DS Kartsport with its riders Mika Nelles in the KZ, Niklas Hirsch and Tom Kalender also convinced at the Mini and OK juniors and confirmed our possibilities,” team leader Martin Hetschel summed up the ADAC Kart Masters kick-off in the evening.

Already next weekend Mach1 Motorsport will go back to the Erftlandring. The German Kart Championship celebrates its season opener on the traditional track in Kerpen. The traditional German manufacturer wants to be in the forefront of the four predicates once again.
