DSKC victory for Mach1 Motorsport

Strong performance at the season opener of the German Kart Championship

Last weekend, the racing team of the kart manufacturer Mach1 went to the Erftlandring in Kerpen for the late start of the German Kart Championship. On the traditional course in North Rhine-Westphalia, seven fosterlings competed in Germany’s highest-ranking racing series and were able to convince in the process. Julian Müller drove to a brilliant double victory in the DMSB-Shifter-Kart-Cup.

Last weekend, 110 participants from all over Europe took the 1,107-meter long track in Kerpen. In a heat battle of temperatures near the 40-degree mark, man and machine reached their limits. The drivers of the Mach1 Motorsport team held their winnings and impressed the audience with a great performance.

For the first time, Tom Kalender drove in the German Junior Kart Championship. As a rookie in the international field, the youngster presented himself in pleasing condition. From position 21 after the heats, Tom drove two good races and scraped in the end only narrowly past the top ten being placed twelfth. He was rewarded with his first championship points.

Niels Tröger represented the Mach1 Motorsport colors in the DKM as soloist. In the heat boiler of Kerpen, the young racer showed a cool head at the beginning of the weekend, drove impressive qualifying races, and finished second in the intermediate rankings. In the first race, however, Niels failed with a technical defect, which unfortunately prevented another attack in the second run. Luckily, he was already much better off in the evening after the violent impact.

A Mach1 Motorsport quintet drove at the shifter karts in the DSKC. Julian Müller showed his element. Already in qualifying, the racer from Cologne drove at the top of the field and even improved in the heats. From pole position, the experienced driver subsequently started with a victory into the pre-final, from where Julian finally followed with a victory in the final. Team-mate Tim Tröger was also at the front of the field until the pre-final. A failure threw him back to the end of the field. In an impressive way, Tim then started a catch-up chase in the second race, which after 23 laps only came to an end when he was in sixth position. He underlined his competitiveness with a clear racing best time.

Also Paul Voegeding got into the act being placed seventh in the pre-final, but had to turn off his kart prematurely in the final due to a flatfoot and had no chance to fight for the cup rank. Mika Nelles and Tobias Sjörgen were unfortunately less lucky in the end. Mika dueled in sixth place for the top places in the pre-final but had to give up prematurely after a starting collision in the final. Unfortunately, due to a rib injury Tobias could not compete in the final despite good speed in the heats. The medical examination in the evening revealed a severe rib bruise but fortunately nothing is broken.

“This weekend we had to reach our limits. Both, our drivers, and our equipment had to perform at their best to survive the heat battle. In the end, we did very well and were convinced in all classes. The grip level on the track was very high. The last few weeks we put a lot of energy into the development of our chassis and are now reaping the laurels,” said team leader Martin Hetschel in the evening.
Mach1 Motorsport will continue in Kerpen, again, in just under three weeks. From August 28th to 30th, the German Kart Championship will kick off the second race of the still fresh season on the right hand course.
