Mach1 Kart drivers gather points in Genk – Exciting half-time of the German Kart Championship

Only a week after the ADAC Kart Masters in Kerpen, the Mach1 Kart drivers travelled on to Belgian Genk. At the half-time of the German Kart Championship they met strong fields of participants counting 187 drivers from more than 25 nations. In the end the team collected important championship points, although it did not go as planned for all pilots.

Mach1 Motorsport started at the third event of the German Kart Championship on the 1.360m long track in Belgium with eight drivers. Two weeks before the finale of the European Kart Championship numerous international top drivers used the races as preparation, therefore the challenge for the drivers was significantly higher as usual.

The German chassis manufacturer wanted to drive into the top ranks again at the DSKM and sent the driver Douglas Lundberg, Pawel Myszkier and Jordi van Moorsel on grid. Swede Douglas Lundberg travelled to Genk highly motivated after a strong performance at the Swedish Championship and already impressed with top times during the free trainings. Light drizzle threw him back during qualifying though and Douglas was only ranked 45th. During the course of the heats he was then able to fight his way forward and achieved entering the finals directly by coming in 26th. “In this strong field with such a bad qualifying result actually a direct qualification to the finals was almost impossible. Douglas has delivered a strong performance though, things can continue like this tomorrow”, team leader Martin Hetschel commented.

Douglas had bad luck during the final races though. During the first race he started with four used tires and drove forward to 21st position. The Swede planned to attack during the second race. He started with four new tires and immediately gained some ground. He was then stopped by an opponent during the first lap. “That was very unfortunate. Douglas would have been a secure top ten candidate. We’ve gained a lot of knowledge that we can now use for the European Championship and we want to grow even more”, Hetschel continued.

Next to Lundberg, Jordi van Moorsel and Pawel Myskier also started at the DSKM. Pole Myskier came in 24th at qualifying and was the best Mach1 driver. A falling out during a heat cost him the safe qualification for the final races though. During the repechage he lost all chances due to a starting accident. Jordi van Moorsel was also able to highlight the potential of the Mach1-Kart material during the heats. By coming in ninth he was really close to the leading drivers. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to enter the final races in the end though. “Both of them have shown good performances as well. However, despite full application, both drivers did not reach the finals for the first time, which is very bitter”, Hetschel revealed.

Five Mach1-protégés started at the DMSB Shifterkart Cup. The fastest drivers of the team were Marco Forrer and Julian Müller – both drove among the top ten during the finals. At the second race Forrer just barely missed placing in the cup ranks by coming in sixth. In the beginning, Müller neatly tied in with his performance of the ADAC Kart Masters. Unfortunately he was slowed down during the final races due to technical problems and came in only seventh and eighth. “Marco’s weekend went nearly  perfect. He has constantly increased during the championship and delivered his so far best result in Genk. Unfortunately Julian had to fight with technical problems and had to enter the races with his training engine”, Hetschel added.

The other three drivers experienced a weekend of ups and downs. Tim Schröder improved his performance during the course of the three racing days and closed the gap to the leading drivers. He collected championship points by coming in 19th and 16th. Thomas Neumann was on his way to the top ten after the heats again. He had to deal with a rough setback during the first final race then – underweight at the technical re-monitoring cost him his result. Instead of hanging his head he gave it his all again during the second race and drove forward from the back of the field to 15th position. Third driver Toni Greif had difficulties finding the right rhythm throughout the entire weekend and stayed far behind his possibilities. Hetschel is looking forward confidently to the next race in Oschersleben though: “Things can’t always go smoothly with eight drivers. We were able to show our potential in all classes though. Without the technical difficulties also Julian would have been a top ten candidate. With Toni, Tommi and Tim we will work hard so that they can reach their potential better in the next race!”

The team is going to travel to Genk again in two weeks. Then, the finale of the CIK-FIA European Kart Championship is going to take place there. Mach1 Kart will participate with five drivers in two classes.

 

Pole position for Mach1 Motorsport in Ampfing

Mach1 Motorsport started at the German Kart Championship in Ampfing with a large number of drivers last weekend. Martin Hetschel’s team braved the partly very difficult weather conditions and placed themselves on the front ranks of Germany’s highest kart racing series in spite of a lot of bad luck.

Last weekend, the Schweppermannring in Ampfing (Upper Bavaria) hosted the second event of the German Kart Championship. Heavy rain caused strongly altering track conditions on the 1.063m long track and made the international meeting a challenging undertaking for drivers and teams. Nonetheless, 141 drivers from different nations faced the challenges on and off the track and provided thrilling kart racing on the highest level. The Mach1 Motorsport Team was there as well and started with their drivers at the DJKM, DSKM and the new DMSB Shifterkart Cup.

Cameron Boedler started at the German Junior Kart Championship as a soloist and caused a sensation at the beginning of the weekend. As the fastest driver of his group, he was on second position at qualifying and looked forward to the heats with high motivation. “Despite the difficult conditions on the track I got along really well – the kart is doing exactly what I want it to”, explained the German-Brazilian. After technical difficulties during the heats Cameron qualified for the final races via the repechage. But luck wasn’t on his side there either – the Mach1-factory driver had to end the race prematurely. Nonetheless, the youngster gave it his all again after that and managed to drive from the back of the field to 16th position.

Three drivers started for Mach1 Motorsport at the hard-fought German Shifterkart Championship. Pawel Myskier showed a good performance. The Pole qualified as 18th driver and was on the pleasing 11th place after the heats, despite a time-penalty in one heat. Among the incredibly homogenous field of the DSKM, Pawel crossed the finish line of both final races on 12th place and even drove the fastest lap during the first race.

Experienced driver Douglas Lundberg already gave a lot of power with fifth place at qualifying among 46 drivers. He finished the following heats on the good second place and an eleventh place after a racing accident, which made him fall back to eighth place on the interim standings. After positions 11 and 13 at the races, the Swede is now still on sixth place on the overall list of rankings and still has all chances of racing forward to the cup ranks during the further course of the season.

Jordi van Moorsel unfortunately had to deal with more bad luck. After the heats, he had to give it his all at the repechage to get one of the last tickets for the final races. Jordi did this very successfully by achieving second place and then went into the first final race from 30th place. With great overtaking maneuvers, he fought his way forward to 18th place. By ending up on the 21st place at the second race, the Mach1 Motorsport-protégé then just barely missed a top 20 result.

Five drivers drove for the German chassis manufacturer at the DMSB Shifterkart Cup. Toni Greif experienced a perfect weekend. After two great heats, Toni went into the first race from third place and was able to improve his position to second. He then had to deal with a rough setback at the finish line. A construction mistake after the inspection of the engine on Saturday made for an exclusion from the ranking and resulted in a starting position from the back of the field for the second race. There, Toni gave it his all once more and raced forward to 22nd position.

Thomas Neumann showed a constant performance. The Bayreuth resident was on the good sixth place after the heats and ended up on eighth and ninth positions at the final races and thereby collected important championship points. Marco Forrer was able to impress as well. A catching-up race from 18th to seventh position during the first race highlighted the efficiency of the Mach1 material. At the second race, Marco had to deal with a time penalty, but was still noted in the result lists on the good twelfth place.

Julian Müller started as a guest in the internationally manned DSKC and showed himself in top-form. During the free trainings and warm-up, Julian was always among the top drivers. Qualifying in rain threw him back to 17th place though. At a heat, Julian then had to deal with an exclusion from the ranking due to a misinterpreted gesture of a race director. From 26th place, Julian then drove forward to 13th position during the first final race and thereby proved his skills. During the second race, he then had to park his kart in the off prematurely though.

Team mate Tim Schröder experienced a bad weekend. A falling-out during the first race destroyed all hopes for a good result and made the advancement during the second race difficult. The Bad Oldesloe-resident stayed behind his possibilities with 29th place.

“The weather really wore us out this weekend. Unfortunately luck wasn’t always on our side during the races. Nonetheless, we were able to prove our competitiveness with the many strong individual results and are looking forward to the next races optimistically. We’re going to keep making an effort to drive among the front of Germany’s highest kart racing series”, summarized team leader Martin Hetschel in the evening.

Mach1 Motorsport on the top places in Wackersdorf – Lundberg on third championship position at the DSKM

German kart manufacturer Mach1 kart met a strong field of participants at the kick-off to the German Kart Championship in Wackersdorf. Factory driver Douglas Lundberg drove among the forefront at the DSKM and is on third place on the overall list of rankings.

Only a week after the CIK-FIA KZ1 European Championship, the next highlight was waiting for Mach1 Motorsport. The kick-off to the German Kart Championship took place at the Prokart Raceland Wackersdorf. The highest German kart racing series impresses with strong fields of participants this year – 140 drivers from 23 nations started there.

Swede Douglas Lundberg was Mach1’s spearhead at the royal league DSKM. He was already able to underline his ambitions during qualifying with a fourth place and only three hundreds of a second backlog to the first driver and was able to continue his performance during the heats. The vice champion of 2014 achieved second and fourth places. During the final races he even fought for victory and was able to keep up with the world’s best kart drivers. He collected championship points by coming in fourth and sixth and is currently on the overall third place. “We’re very content with Douglas’ performance. We’ve only been working together for a short time and are on the right track. He feels comfortable with us. If things continue like this we are going to be able to fight for victories”, praised team leader Martin Hetschel.

Next to Lundberg, Jordi van Moorsel from the Netherslands and Pole Pawel Myszkier also started. While the latter unfortunately had to bow out of both final races, van Moorsel crossed the finish line on the 16th place after a great catching up race from way back and also collected championship points.

The DMSB Shifterkart Cup is a new part of the DKM and provides a good addition to the top league. Four ambitious drivers started there and showed their potential. Toni Greif led the internal ranking. Marco Forrer, Tim Schröder and Thomas Neumann showed solid performances as well and established themselves in midfield. “The new Championship is a great solution for the drivers who don’t drive karts every week. The standard is high too. Our drivers have presented themselves well and are going to drive even farther at the front throughout the course of the year”, added Hetschel.

Cameron Boedler started as a soloist. The German-Brazilian celebrated his debut at the German Junior Kart Championship and ended up behind his own expectations by coming in 28th at qualifying. During the course of the heats he was able to drive forward though and had a good starting position for the final races on 15th place. He lost some ground after the start of the first race though. During the 17 laps he fought his way forward again and ended up on 16th place. Unfortunately his weekend ended with a falling out during the second race. Nevertheless, Martin Hetschel wasn’t disappointed: “After a short break it’s great to have a junior at the start again. We had to learn a little in the beginning. Everything is new to Cameron but he did really well.”

The team is already going to travel to the next race in a couple of days. The kick-off to the ADAC Kart Masters is going to take place on the Hunsrückring/Hahn.

Trophy Margutti: Mach1 Motorsport achieves pole position

German chassis manufacturer Mach1 Kart experienced a successful season beginning in Italian Lonato. At the 27th Trophy Andrea Margutti the team drove among the front field of the international competition and was among the victory favorites in the shifterkart class.

After a long winter break, the kick-off to the 2016 season happened on the South Garda Circuit for Mach1 Motorsport. The team competed at the 27th Trophy Andrea Margutti with five drivers. This time, 158 drivers from 24 nations started overall.

At the shifterkarts, Swede Douglas Lundberg celebrated his premiere as factory driver and was able to impress everyone. After strong free trainings, Lundberg achieved the best time during qualifying and was able to highlight his performance during the heats as well – he finished these on second and third places. A ten-seconds-penalty threw him back during the second heat though, which was why he only started into the pre-finale from 13th place. The European vice champion of 2014 fought his way forward skillfully and came in fourth. During the finale he drove to third position immediately and kept close to the front drivers. He fell back a little towards the middle of the race but fought his way forward to fourth place again until the end of the race, which pleased team leader Martin Hetschel: “With Douglas we have a strong driver in our team. He felt comfortable in our kart from the beginning and impressively showed our potential in Lonato.”

The other drivers did great jobs as well. In addition to Lundberg Jordi van Moorsel, Pawel Myszkier and Marco Forrer also started. Swiss Marco Forrer had a lot of bad luck. Due to a falling out at the second heat he was only on 35th place and had to try to qualify for the finale through the repechage. He had to bow out of this early though and missed his chance.

“Marco has considerably improved his performance during trainings and would have  definitely entered the finale if it hadn’t been for the falling out”, Hetschel praised his driver.

Jordi van Moorsel and Pawel Myszkier managed to qualify directly and established themselves in midfield during both final races. Dutchman van Moorsel showed a strong catching-up race: After a falling out during the pre-finale he was able to drive to 17th place during the finale.

Cameron Boedler started as a soloist at the OK juniors. The German-Brazilian drove his first race in the CIK-FIA class and was competitive right away. He finished qualifying on 25th place and worked his way forward to 19th place during the heats. He came even further during the pre-finale. During an exciting race he just barely missed placing among the top ten by coming in 13th. The finale went thrillingly as well; the juniors showed impressive fights. In midfield, the positions changed every lap. Cameron kept his nerves though and finished the weekend on the great 16th place. “I’m also very content with Cameron’s performance. He already impressed us during the free trainings with his fast times and was able to tie in with this during the races.”

The next event for Mach1 Motorsport is going to be the kick-off to the European Shifterkart Championship in Essay (France) from April 21st – 24th. One week later, the first race of the German Kart Championship is going to take place in Wackersdorf (Upper Palatine).

Mach1 Motorsport driver line-up extended to Cameron Boedler and Jordi van Moorsel

In addition to the current drivers of the Mach1 Motorsport team the German-Brazilian Cameron Boedler will compete the new OK-Junior and the Dutchman Jordi van Morsel in KZ2 next year.

In addition to the regular drivers Thierry Delre, Pawel Myskier and Marcel Schultheiß, Jordi van Moorsel will participate in 2016 at the DSKM, and the CIK / FIA European and World Championships and fight for top placements. In addition, he will probably racing in other categories, the details will be announced later on.

The KZ2 pilots Marco Forrer, Toni Greif and Tommy Neumann will compete in the new DMSB Schaltkart Cup and / or the ADAC Kart Masters and can certainly be top players there.

Rounding out the commitment to the juniors, Cameron Boedler, who already made his debut in the team at the SKUSA Super Nationals in Las Vegas and achieved there already a top result. He will represent the colors of Mach1 Kart in the ADAC Kart Masters and the DJKM in the OK-Junior category.

“We are proud to welcome two talented drivers in our distinguished team,” said team boss Martin Hetschel and continues: “Thus, we now have nine solid pilots for the 2016 season, negotiations with other interested parties are currently underway, we look forward. We are still open for queries in the OK, RotaxMAX and X30 in order to strengthen our forces even here. “

Exciting DKM weekend for Mach1 Motorsport

German chassis manufacturer Mach1 Motorsport started at the third event of the German Kart Championship in Ampfing last weekend. The drivers experienced diversified races under changing weather conditions. Unfortunately numerous incidents stopped a successful outcome.

Another highlight awaited Mach1 Motorsport before their summer break. The ranked races five and six of the German Shifterkart Championship took place on the Schweppermannring in Ampfing. The German kart manufacturer Mach1’s team started with six drivers from four nations. While the sun was shining in huge parts of Germany, the weather in Ampfing was of a mixed nature. On Sunday morning the first final races took place in the rain.

During qualifying and the heats on Saturday the 1.060m long track was still dry though. Fastest driver of the team was Irish John Norris, who qualified for the finals by ending up on 15th place. He was then stopped due to a defective clutch during the first race though. From the back of the field he then fought his way forward during the second race and ended up on the good 17th place, which still gained him one championship point.

Pole Pawel Myskier celebrated a successful team debut. He achieved a direct ticket to the finals by ending up on 27th place, even though he had to deal with a falling out during one of the heats. On the wet track he then drove as if unleashed during the first race. Coming in 11th he just barely missed placing in the top ten. He was aiming for points during the second race as well but was stopped by an erratic axle in the end. He was able to limit the damages a little by coming in 21st. On the overall list of rankings he climbed from 16th to 13th place after his switch to Mach1 Kart.

Kart returnee Thomas Neumann was present in the ranked races as well. He achieved his qualification by coming in third at the repechage but unfortunately had to drop out of the first race prematurely. From the back of the field he drove in the wind shadow of his team mate John Norris during the second race and came in on the good 20th place.

Marcel Schultheiß and Marco Forrer weren’t able to qualify for the final races, both of them had to forfeit prematurely after the repechage. Even though his drivers’ yield was low in the end, Martin Hetschel still found positive words about the weekend in Ampfing: “Unfortunately this result doesn’t reflect our possibilities. Our material’s speed is right – Pawel and John could have ended up in the top ten. Little things prevented good results in the end though. We’ll now take our summer break and are going to prepare for the next races meticulously.”

The next races are going to take place from September 5th – 6th at the etropolis Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. Before that, Mach1 Kart is also going to start at the ADAC Kart Masters in Kerpen.

Mach1 Motorsport: Ups and downs in Genk

Mach1 Motorsport started at the second event of the German Kart Championship in Genk with five drivers. The protégés were up against strong competition in the shifterkart class and experienced a mixed weekend. Irishman John Norris was the best driver in the end.

The European Kart Championship was clearly not far away anymore. Numerous international top drivers used the race in Genk as preparation, which is why the field was well filled up with 62 drivers. John Norris was among the favorites after qualifying already and finished every heat in the top ten by coming in seventh, eighth and ninth. That put him on 12th starting position for the first final race. He had to deal with an early falling out during this race though. He then showed a great catching-up race during the second race and finished on the great 13th place. He is currently on ninth place on the overall list of rankings. “John was very well underway again. The performance was right and the chassis did a good job with these challenging conditions”, Martin Hetschel summed up in the evening.

The other four drivers Marcel Schultheiß, Thomas Neumann, Thierry Delre and Marco Forrer had less luck though. Despite strong individual performances during the heats, the quartet had to deal with several fallings out and all started at the repechage. During the race’s eleven laps they gave it their all to gain tickets to the final races. Belgian Thierry Delre was the most unlucky driver in the end: he just barely missed entering the finals by ending up on seventh place. “That was really unfortunate, the boys all did really well. After Wackersdorf, where all of them entered the finals, we had to deal with a setback here”, said Martin Hetschel.

Lucas Speck achieved a small sensation after qualifying. The driver of an LS kart, which is being developed in cooperation with Mach1 kart, achieved fourth place. During the heats he was able to prove that this result wasn’t a flash in the pan. Next to a falling out, he finished on eighth and eleventh places and entered the final races directly. Things didn’t go so smoothly during these though. His results were a falling out and a 26th place, which doesn’t reflect on the Hilden resident’s possibilities.

While all teams went home on Sunday evening, Mach1 Motorsport used Monday for additional tests on the 1.360km long track. The German chassis manufacturer is going to start at the finale of the European Kart Championship with four drivers. Two weeks prior, Mach1 kart and its factory supported teams are already going to start at the halftime-race of the ADAC Kart Masters in Oschersleben.

Mach1 kart successful at the ADAC Kart Masters

The ADAC Kart Masters started into its new season on the Hunsrückring/Hahn. Eight Mach1 kart drivers started there as well. The 2015 models of the German chassis manufacturer were able to impress from the bambini class to the shifterkarts and celebrated grand successes.

In great weather, the 195 participants of Germany’s strongest kart racing series started on the 1.377m long Hunsrückring. In addition to the Mach1 Motorsport team, the Mach1 factory supported teams DS Kartsport and BB Motorsport started with their drivers as well.

Marco Forrer and Toni Greif started for Mach1 Motorsport at the strongly contested shifterkart class. Counting 51 drivers, the field was completely filled up. Marco Forrer showed a solid performance and was able to improve his performance compared to the DSKM in Wackersdorf. After 22nd place at qualifying, he continuously got better and finished both heats on 11th place. From 14th starting position he drove forward during the first final race to 9th place. His great upwards trend was then unfortunately stopped during the second final race – Marco had to forfeit the race after a collision during the first lap. “The new Mach1 FIA5 Kart feels really good and is even easier to drive than the previous model. This is especially recognizable during the races. It’s a pity that I had to quit the second final race due to the accident. During the first race I drove the same times as the driver on third place”, the Swiss summed up in the evening.

His team mate Toni Greif was the best Mach1 driver after qualifying, on 18th place. He wasn’t content with this though – “The tire air pressure and the transmission weren’t right”, Toni commented on his result. He then got on well during the heats and finished these on 12th and 5th places. Unfortunately the disillusionment came after the second heat: Due to his overtaking someone during a yellow phase he was excluded from the ranking and missed entering the final races. “This is obviously very disappointing because the speed was right. During the first two laps things were really confusing due to all the accidents though and I must have missed the yellow flag”, he explained disappointedly.

DS-Kartsport protégé Alexander Heil started at the shifterkarts as well. The 2013 X30 senior champion is new to the gear class and achieved a good start by coming in 23rd during qualifying. He was able to improve his performance during the heats then and finished the first one on 10th place. A collision threw him back during the second but he was still able to enter the final races by coming in 24th. He was able to drive forward to 20th place during these and finished the second final race among the top ten, on the great ninth place.

In addition to Alexander Heil, Mark Wolf (X30 senior), Miroslaw Kravchenko and Luca Voncken (both bambini) started for DS-Kartsport as well. X30 senior Marc Wolf couldn’t achieve an optimal start in Hahn. He ended up on 18th place at the first final race and was then pushed off the track by an opponent during the second race and had to forfeit. Both bambini drivers showed strong performances though. Reigning vice champion Miroslaw Kravchenko belongs to the title favorites and showed a solid performance during the heats already. He entered the final races on fourth place and finished them on 3rd and 5th places. In the championship he is now on third place after the kick-off weekend. His team mate celebrated his ADAC Kart Masters premiere in Hahn and established himself in midfield immediately. With two top ten results he directly ended up among the cup ranks and is currently on ninth place on the overall list of rankings.

Baldur Bahn started into the 2015 season with a considerable training backlog. He felt comfortable in the new Mach1 FIA5 kart immediately though. Unfortunately a couple of quarrels and problems with the carburetor and engine cost him a countable result. The newly appointed team leader and driver in personal union doesn’t have time to bury his head in the sand though: He is going to start at the SAKC kick-off in Ampfing this weekend already.

Last but not least, Justin Tabakovic started at the shifterkarts. He continuously got better during his premiere race at the ADAC Kart Masters, but a 21st place and a falling out during the heats weren’t enough to enter the final races.

“I really want to praise all Mach1 drivers; they really did a great job this weekend. Additionally I have gotten lots of positive feedback regarding our new FIA5 chassis. I think we really did well with this”, Mach1 owner Martin Hetschel said in the evening, not without pride. To enable an even bigger audience to try the new material, Mach1 is planning some more test days in July, in cooperation with Mach1 factory supported team DS-Kartsport. Strong DSKM performance by Mach1 Motorsport

Last weekend, Mach1 Motorsport entered the final races of the German Shifterkart Championship with all five drivers. The kick-off to the highest German kart racing grade series took place at the Prokart Raceland Wackersdorf. The field was strongly manned with 51 drivers. John Norris drove among the top five.

The season kick-off to the German Kart Championship wasn’t easy. Unsettled weather caused the drivers and teams to worry. German chassis manufacturer Mach1 did well though and drove in the front with all of their drivers. The new FIA5-chassis proved its worth – the team was among the fastest teams despite different grip conditions.

One of the favorites was John Norris: The Irishman experienced a mixed qualifying due to the weather though and only ended up on 13th place. He skillfully fought his way forward during the heats though and improved his position to seventh place. John kept close to the leading drivers during the first race on the wet track and came in seventh again. He jumped to the front during the second final race then. After 21 exciting laps he finished the race close to the leading drivers on fifth place. That’s also his place on the temporary list of rankings. Team leader Martin Hetschel was content: “John was among the top drivers in all races. The new chassis was challenged multiple times due to the unsettled weather in Wackersdorf. It did a great job under all conditions.”

In addition to Norris, his team mates Marcel Schultheiß, Marco Forrer and Thiery Delré also directly entered the finals. Only Thomas Neumann had to qualify via the repechage. Coming in sixth, the kart returnee achieved a final ticket too. During the final races, the quartet established itself among the strongly manned field. At the second finale, Delré, Schultheiß and Neumann ended up on the 19th, 21st and 22nd places. Marco Forrer had bad luck though. After a 25th place at the first race, he had to prematurely end the race this time. “I’m very proud of my drivers – all of them have made their ways to the final races. This isn’t always sure in such challenging weather and with such a strong competition. Thomas Neumann especially impressed me with his first kart race after a long break. He quickly got a feel of things and can certainly provide a surprise once he’s gained more driving experience”, Martin Hetschel summed up.

Mach1-Kart is going to start at their next race next weekend already. The kick-off to the ADAC Kart Masters is going to take place on the Hunsrückring/Hahn.

Not a perfect weekend for Mach1 Motorsport

Mach1 Kart travelled to the finale of the German Kart Championship in Genk with high expectations. In the end, the races were rather disappointing though, even though the performance of the German Mach1 chassis was impressive. John Norris finished the season on the sixth place of the DSKM.

The team had a full house on the 1.360m long track in Belgian Genk. At the DKM, Brit Harrison Newey started for the team, while John Norris, Marcel Schultheiß, Marco Forrer and Thierry Delré started at the shifterkarts. In addition to a top-class field of participants, consisting of 122 national and international drivers, the weather challenged drivers and materials. The sun was shining on Friday and Saturday and caused high grip conditions on the track. On Sunday it rained heavily. “The Mach1 chassis has done a perfect job once again. The weather couldn’t have been more antithetic. Our setup was right under these diverse conditions and the drivers felt comfortable”, team leader Martin Hetschel summed up in the evening.

John Norris started into the weekend with slim chances of winning the title. Ninth place at qualifying was very promising and a fourth place at the heats raised hopes for more as well. Unfortunately he also had to deal with a falling out, which caused John to fall back to the 24th overall position. During the final races it was then hard for him to fight his way forward on the wet track. Coming in 23rd and 24th, he missed placing in the point ranks and fell back to the overall sixth Championship position. “We don’t have to be disappointed. This was our first season at the shifterkarts and we’ve been able to impress. The field of participants was top-class”, Martin Hetschel explained.

While Thierry Delré and Marcel Schultheiß managed to enter the final races and drove among midfield, the fourth driver unfortunately didn’t achieve qualification. Marco Forrer couldn’t get past 12th place during the repechage. “Next to talent and great material, there is always a lot of luck necessary at motorsports. Unfortunately we didn’t have it this weekend. Thierry Delré especially impressed me: “He drove his first race for us and was really close to the top ten on Saturday”, continued Hetschel.

Harrison Newey started at the DKM. The young Brit was able to tie in with his performance from Kerpen during the heats and came in 12th and 13th. But things didn’t go so well during the rainy final races then. His expectations were not met due to a 26th place and a falling out. “Harrison is always getting faster and is getting along great with the material. But this is just the beginning”, Hetschel praised his youngster.

During the upcoming weeks, a lot is still waiting for the chassis manufacturer. In addition to the new chassis-homologation, Mach1 Motorsport is going to start at the X30 international finals in Le Mans. “At the end of October, the new chassis are going to be ready for test drives. We’ve applied a couple of changes and are very confident that we’ve taken a big step forward. Interested people are welcome to contact us and arrange test drives”, Hetschel invites drivers.
